would you believe this is Arizona? 😍

back in August we camped in the White Mountains, located in the eastern part of the state. I couldn’t get over how lush and green it was!🌲

if you live in AZ, I highly suggest you make a trip up that way at least once in your lifetime. this area offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping, skiing (during the winter months) and is a great spot to see fall colors, as well. it’s about a 4 hour drive from Phoenix.

just got home from a fun camping trip in the White Mountains. we camped in the Big Lake Recreation Area at Cutthroat campground. I had never been up that way before and WHOA 🤯 it’s so beautiful! everything is so fresh and green from all the rain! 💚

have you been up that way? it’s definitely worth the drive!

We went chasing waterfalls🌲🥾

After work on Friday we drove to Pinetop to escape the 110°F degree heat in Phoenix! We explored new places, enjoyed the cooler temps, and stayed at our favorite place corduroylodge (hosted).

🚮 Please remember to Leave No Trace and be respectful of the lands you are on. Pack it in, pack it out!

🎟️ Pacheta Falls is on White Mountain Apache land. You NEED a permit to go to this waterfall and they’re available seasonally. They told us they won’t be available in September. We suggest calling in advance. The permit is $45 a person. We purchased ours at the Hon-Dah Outdoor Sports store off Highway 260 just south of Pinetop. You must have the permit on you at ALL times. A ranger did check while we were driving to the waterfall
🚙 The waterfall is extremely remote and is over 2.5 hours from Pinetop. It’s about 1.5 hours from Thompson Trail. The road is narrow, rough at times, and overgrown. You need 4wd and high clearance to navigate these roads
📱🚫 There is no cell phone service on the roads to get to the waterfall. We recommend downloading digital maps ahead of time for offline use. It’s easy to get lost. We used Google Maps and onxoffroad . Both weren’t fully accurate but able to guide us well enough

First backpacking trip ✅

➡️Swipe to slide 8 to see this cutie pie we were lucky to see! In fact they are very thinly distributed across Arizona and hard to spot! He saw us and ran for the tree 🌲😅

My husband I just returned from our first backpacking trip together and it was sooo amazing! The solitude and the immersion with nature just can’t be beat!

We chose Mount Baldy Wilderness in the White Mountains of Arizona as the location for our first backpacking experience because of its rugged beauty, easy access to trails and a ton of water sources along the way. At altitude of above 9000ft, It is also much cooler than the Phoenix area making it a perfect escape in those hot summer months. Ok maybe the nights are too cold still 🥶 so just be prepared.

Did you know that Arizona can be so lush and green?

Remember to always pack out your trash when exploring in nature!

White Mountains dump! 🌲🥾

Last Friday, we drove 3 hours to Pinetop-Lakeside to escape the Phoenix heat and do one of our bucket list hikes: 📍Thompson Trail

We stayed at thenookpinetop (hosted). We LOVED this boutique hotel because it is pet-friendly, located near great trails, and has an area with mini golf, fire pits, and other yard games. We had just as much fun at the hotel as we did exploring the surrounding area! This was Franklin’s first vacation and we will definitely be bringing him back here. The hosts were super kind and also share a love for animals + the outdoors. We highly reccomend this stay if you’re visiting the White Mountains!
